Tungsten Font Overview
Tungsten is a smart, tough, and stylish font family. It’s a compact, sporty sans serif font that feels bold yet persuasive, not overwhelming. Flat-sided sans serif fonts have been part of graphic design from the start. This style comes from sign painting, often called “Modern Gaspipe” because its shapes resemble plumbing pipes.
These fonts were key to 20th-century posters. They symbolized modernity, industry, and energy. From optimistic WPA posters to bold Constructivist designs in the USSR, these fonts made an impact.
When creating Tungsten, the goal was to make it more like Steve McQueen than Steven Seagal. It’s sleek and strong, like whiskey in a highball glass rather than a martini. Instead of sticking to simple shapes like circles and squares, Tungsten focuses on balance between the inside and outside of letters. This gives the font its consistency across both uppercase and lowercase letters.
